French hornist Adam Unsworth expands the instrumental range for jazz with Excerpt This!. The title track sets the stage with a fierce uptempo blues, with Philadelphia Orchestra member Unsworth hosting a unique lineup of vibes, violin, drums, bass, bass clarinet, flute, and alto flute. Drummer Cornell Rochester and reedist Les Thimmig add luster to this playful set of originals, but it's Unsworth's facility on the French horn that reminds us that jazz is an all-comers music. His classical training and wit are on display with such songs as "Halfway There", "Waltz with a View", and the "Graham's Crackers" suite.
