Ranaan Meyer

 

 

Ranaan Meyer, double bassist, hails from Turnersville, New Jersey and graduated in 2003 from the Curtis Institute of Music.  He was the recipient of a merit-based full tuition scholarship and holds the Institute's Curtis Alumni Fellowship.

Mr. Meyer entered Curtis in 1999 and studied with Harold Robinson, principal bass of The Philadelphia Orchestra.  A regular substitute for The Philadelphia Orchestra, he joined the Orchestra's European tour in May 2004.  He is also a co-founding member of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra.  Along with his classical repertoire, Mr. Meyer is an accomplished jazz musician.  He was recently invited to tour with legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino, and has performed in the Washington Township and Willingboro jazz festivals in New Jersey which were broadcast on Philadelphia's WRTI.

Mr. Meyer began studying double bass at the age of eleven.  He also studied piano and comes from a musical family; his mother is a pianist, his father a singer, and his brother a violinist.
